SCC Green Building Program

Santa Cruz County officials are committed to encouraging a more sustainable approach to all new residential construction. County Supervisor John Maynard fully supports that approach, and as part of that commitment, the County's Community Development Department has designed a Voluntary Residential Green Building Program. The new program was adopted by the SCC Board of Supervisors on January 19, 2011. At the heart of the GBP is a Residential Green Building Rating System which provides points for various green building measures that are incorporated into new houses within seven areas:

1.      Location, Lot Design, Preparation & Development

2.      Resource Efficiency

3.      Energy Efficiency

4.      Water Efficiency

5.      Indoor Environmental Quality

6.      Operation, Maintenance & Owner Education

7.      Innovation

The SCC Building Division will issue an Emerald, Gold, Silver or Bronze certificate to recognize homes that have been designed and built using the County's Green Building Standards.
